My Journey with Truth and Reconciliation

Growing up as a settler in Treaty 1 territory, I was unaware of the shameful and violent history of Canada and Indigenous Peoples and the deep trauma that it created for families all around me, including my own. The truth is, that I am the descendant of settlers, but also of strong and resilient Cree Matriarchs. These Matriarchs, on all sides of my family history are strong, resilient and incredibly funny. I like to think that I inherited some of those traits.

Through my career in Manitoba’s Public Service, my work was always focussed on social services, equity and values-based leadership. It became clear to me that in order to find success in my work, and to do so in a good way, I needed to prioritize my own personal path of Truth and Reconciliation.

Understanding the stories of the Indigenous people in Canada, as well as the experiences of my Cree ancestors was necessary for me to centre the principles of Truth and Reconciliation in my work.

While this journey is not complete, I am committed to continuing on this path and to sharing what I have learned along the way.

My Commitment

I am passionate about advancing equity, innovation, and impact across all areas of my work. Whether you’re addressing systemic barriers, navigating government systems, or developing workforce strategies, I am your trusted partner in driving meaningful change.

I acknowledge that I live, work, and play on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk, and the homeland of the Red River Métis. I recognize that the water I rely on comes from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory and that the hydroelectric power I use originates from Treaty 5 Territory. I honor the enduring relationships Indigenous peoples have with this land and water, and commit to actions that advance Truth and Reconciliation, respect and reciprocity.
